What Made Me Become a Virtual Assistant and start a virtual career?

Well, to be honest, I, like most of you, was extremely limited in my past profession. I liked working on various tasks, and I wanted to put my hands on anything and everything to grow my knowledge, and my knowledge grew—quickly! Spreadsheets were my JAM, but marketing was my BREAD and BUTTER.

The company I worked for was all about helping you grow and learning, but my direct supervisor didn’t like that at all. I would get pulled away on different projects and then would get scolded the moment I got back to my desk. The constant back and forth of wondering if I am doing everything right. What am I doing wrong?

I’m certainly putting in the hours, missing precious time with my daughter, having to miss out on field trips, class parties, you name it. I was missing out on it, constantly trying to prove myself, and my problem was I put in the time and effort into something that no longer challenged me. Why do we do this to ourselves?

So, I decided to be BOLD and ask for change. 

I was working on getting switched out of the department I was in, but I was told to be patient and wait until the timing was good to become the assistant to the executives. I waited a few months, and nothing changed. This was a great company, and I loved the foundation the company was built on.

The leadership at the top was phenomenal, but I was ready to move forward to use my skills the way I thought they could be used. They turned me on to an online platform where people go to outsource most of their important projects. We even used this platform in the company from time to time.

What Is a Virtual Assistant? Why choose this as your virtual career? 

A virtual assistant is an independent contractor that does not work inside the company’s office.

We usually work from a home office, but can basically work from anywhere as long as we have a laptop and an internet connection to receive information, such as shared calendars and any other important documents necessary for the job.

What does a virtual assistant do? Honestly, a virtual assistant can do ANYTHING! Marketing, data entry, scheduling, and even website design. Whatever experience you have can pretty much be utilized online on your terms.

What makes a virtual assistant different than an office assistant? You would be surprised by the way people treat you in an office when you are working “for” them instead of working “with” them. When you’re a virtual assistant trained at the skills a business owner needs, you then enter in a partnership with that company. I spent my high school and college years in the computer lab. So, if you haven’t been doing graphic design, programming, or any of that nerdy stuff, don’t be alarmed, girlfriend!
